A documentary created as a visual outcome based on research conducted whilst writing my dissertation at GSA.
An element of my research was based on what is lost when music has gone through the process of being recorded - not just from a technical point of view but also from an intangible, psychological one, essentially what is lost from the live performance. The film focuses on the resonance and vibrations created by musical instruments when played.
Interviews throughout the documentary included the following musicians:
Norman Blake - Teenage Fanclub
Kenny Anderson - King Creosote
Gordy Goudy - Echo and the bunny men

"These talking machines are going to ruin the artistic development in this country."
"Today you hear these infernal machines going night and day. We will not have a vocal chord left. The vocal chord will be eliminated by a process of evolution, as was the tale of man when he came from the ape."
John Philip Souza, 1906

Through recording and filming the instruments individually all set to a time signature of 100bpm, the music was then composed into the soundtrack heard throughout the film, all the footage in the beginning of the film was informed by the structure of the musical composition.
